The ‘Knife Culture’
In a recent USA Today article (read it here) Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair was quoted as saying his country has a “knife culture.”
It seems there is a problem with stabbings. Britain has VERY tough gun ownership laws. most people are not allowed to have them. Many in the USA would like to see guns banned as well to “cut down on gun crime.”
Well, look at Britain and you can see it is not the guns that cause the problem. To quote the USA Today article: “Stabbings are the most common form of murder in Britain, where firearms – except certain shotguns and sporting rifles – are outlawed. Most police officers in Britain do not carry firearms.” In early May, a your policewoman was stabbed to death in London.
Even with the ban on firearms, they are used in 9% of Britains murders while sharp instruments where used in 29% of the murders.
In Britain it is illegal for anyone under 16 to buy a knife. Now doesn’t that make you feel safer?
The article even quotes an “anit-knife activist.” Even the cavemen used knives, but I hope don’t need to cut that steak you were planning on having for dinner.
The British governement has instituted a knife amnestry program. People can turn in their knives at police stations, schools and churches.
